Carbon or aluminium?
Carbon is lighter and absorbs trail vibration better, which matters over a long day. Its weakness is a hard sideways load — a pole wedged in a rock crack and pushed sideways can shatter without warning. Aluminium is heavier but bends instead of breaking, so it usually still gets you home even if it's no longer straight. Most compact kits favour carbon; choose aluminium for rocky, remote terrain where a field repair isn't realistic.
Fixed-length or adjustable?
